ANCC Announces 2017 Accreditation Premier Program Award Winner


The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) announced today that Wolters Kluwer's Lippincott Professional Development and the Institute of Mental Health, Singapore (IMH) are the recipients of the 2017 Accreditation Premier Program Award. The Premier Program Award recognizes accredited organizations that excel in the provision of continuing nursing education (CNE) and are exemplars in innovation, leadership, and best practice models for CNE. The 2017 winners are organizations that function at a high level of excellence, role-modeling leadership and innovation that contributes to the professional development of nurses and patient outcomes.

Wolters Kluwer's Lippincott Professional Development program influences practice changes in the CNE learning environment with a reach both nationally and internationally. Lippincott Professional Development is committed to developing CNE activities that meet the specific and unique learning needs of nurses who work in a variety of settings and specialties. The Professional Development leadership is committed to functioning as change agents and are accountable in ensuring the delivery of quality CNE. The team is learner-centric by supporting creativity, innovation and change, which inspires others to be successful in providing quality CNE. The CE leaders include nurse planners who collaborate with key stakeholders, such as nursing societies, by regularly attending or conducting meetings with nursing organization leadership to support CNE planning and implementation.  

Wolters Kluwer's Lippincott Professional Development has been accredited since 1978, and in 2013, earned the ANCC Accreditation with Distinction which is recognition for exemplary continuing nursing education providers. With over 2,000 education activities, Lippincott Professional Development provides the largest number of nursing CE courses available online.

IMH demonstrates their commitment to CNE by providing activities that identify practice gaps and equip healthcare professionals with the knowledge to enhance skill and professional practice, as well as support innovation and new knowledge development. Educational activities relating to mental health, nursing and life support are developed for nurses and an interprofessional target audience with the intent to improve patient outcomes.

IMH has utilized the concepts of strategic thinking and planning to mitigate potential high-risk patient situations by developing CNE activities that are designed to impact practice behaviors. With the varied needs of learners in mind, the provider unit at IMH utilizes blended educational strategies to make information and learning materials readily available through online platforms and traditional classroom settings. For example, learners are able to retrieve information about the educational activity before signing up and can expect to develop both knowledge and skills in an interactive environment during training. The curriculum is reviewed regularly with input from subject matter experts to ensure learning materials remain current and relevant.

IMH, is Singapore's only tertiary psychiatric care hospital, also plays a pivotal national role by training the next generation of mental health professionals in Singapore. It supports the development of mental health related educational activities and facilitates clinical internship for nursing students. The Chief Nurse at IMH is intimately involved in the design and development of educational activities and serves as the liaison between IMH, industry partners and the larger academic community to strengthen capabilities and clinical competencies in mental health. IMH has been accredited since 2012 and has earned the ANCC Accreditation with Distinction which is recognition for exemplary continuing nursing education providers.

About the ANCC Accreditation Premier Program Award
The ANCC Accreditation Premier Program Award recognizes ANCC-accredited continuing nursing education providers and approvers that continually raise the bar for quality and/or employ cutting-edge practices in continuing nursing education. Award applications are accepted annually and organizations that apply are evaluated with rigor through a peer-review process by ANCC Primary Accreditation Appraisers and a member of the Commission on Accreditation. Winning organizations act as exemplars in the field of continuing nursing education.  Accredited organizations that hold Premier Program status are expected to mentor other continuing nursing education organizations, continually provide and disseminate best practices, publish, and assist ANCC in advancing high-quality continuing nursing education activities.
