ANCC Accreditation Announces New Members to the Commission on Accreditation

  • Amy Bernard, MS, BSN, RN-BC
    Amy currently serves as the Lead Nurse Planner for WEBMD, Medscape and has extensive expertise in continuing education across multiple professions. Amy is board certified in Nursing Professional Development. She has a broad knowledge base in needs assessment, design, development, delivery, management and analysis of continuing education programs. She also possesses additional expertise in compliance with national accreditation bodies, regulatory agencies, credentialing requirements, and professional education standards. She is a proven leader with extensive staff management experience, and a published author in the healthcare field including trends in continuing education and specific CE courses around emerging public health threats. Amy has served as an ANCC Accreditation Appraiser from 2007 – 2015; a Joint Accreditation Surveyor from 2011 – 2014; and a member of the Joint Accreditation Review Committee from 2014 – present. She has also served on several Task Forces related to continuing education in healthcare.
  • Mary Anne Dumas, PhD, RN, FNP-BC, GNP-BC, FAANP, FAAN, FNAP
    Dr. Dumas is presently the Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, the Nurse Practitioner Programs Director, and is a Professor at Hofstra University North Shore-Long Island Jewish (LIJ) Health System School of Nursing and Health Professions. Prior to her current position, Dr. Dumas was a consultant for Hofstra University North Shore Partnership to establish a school of nursing and two nurse practitioner programs, and faculty for the New Graduate NP Fellowship Program at North Shore LIJ. From 1995 – 2014, she held positions as professor and programs director at Stony Brook University, and is now Professor Emeritus. She is a past president of the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties (NONPF), an editor of the NONPF Preceptor Manual, and a practicing Family Nurse Practitioner. She is a fellow in the American Academy of Nursing, the American Association for Nurse Practitioners, and the National Academies of Practice. She also vice chair of the American Nurses Association’s Individual Member Division (IMD), co-chair of the Military-Veterans Expert Panel for the American Academy of Nursing, and chair of the National Advisory on Veterans Affairs. She served in 2014 on the ANA’s advisory board for incivility and bullying in nursing.
  • Carol Sue Johnson, PhD, RN, NE-BC
    Dr. Johnson has extensive experience leading people, building interprofessional teams, developing and evaluating healthcare programs, and designing unique approaches to educational instruction, including evidence-based practice education for nurse leaders, manuscript development, and advocacy for professional nurses. She is an expert reviewer for the journal Nursing Management; an ANCC appraiser for both the Accreditation Program and the Magnet Recognition Program; and a reviewer for the Ohio Nurses Association Approver Unit. She has held numerous leadership roles with the ANCC Certification Program, the Indiana State Nurses Association, and the Association for Nursing Professional Development. She is a contributing author to multiple publications in continuing nursing education and certification. She also established a scholarship at the Parkview Hospital Foundation in Fort Wayne, Indiana to provide funding for local hospital employees pursuing a baccalaureate degree in nursing.
