Highlights

Opening Keynote: Peter J. Pronovost, MD, PhD, FCCM
Dr. Peter J. Pronovost, MD, PhD, FCCM Dr. Pronovost is a practicing anesthesiologist and critical care physician and a professor at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine who is dedicated to finding ways to make hospitals and health care safer for patients. He has developed a scientifically proven method for reducing the deadly infections associated with central line catheters. His simple but effective checklist protocol virtually eliminated these infections. The protocol is now being implemented across the U.S. His book, Safe Patients, Smart Hospitals: How One Doctor's Checklist Can Help Us Change Health Care from the Inside Out , discusses this important work. In 2008, Dr. Pronovost won a coveted MacArthur Fellowship, popularly known as the "genius grant." He also won the 2004 John Eisenberg Patient Safety Research Award. He has been named by Time magazine as one of the world's 100 “most influential people” for his work on patient safety, and he regularly addresses Congress on this issue.
