Capping her distinguished career in nursing, Jeanne Floyd, PhD, RN, CAE, announced her retirement today from the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Dr. Floyd has served as the organization's executive director for nearly 10 years and has led ANCC through a period of triple-digit growth. Her retirement is effective at the end of 2010, and she will serve as a consultant to ANCC through the first quarter of 2011.
Dr. Floyd has presided over many major accomplishments during her tenure, including the exponential growth of the Magnet Recognition Program® from 22 designated hospitals at the end of 2000 to the 372 currently recognized organizations around the world. Keeping pace with the growth of the program, Dr. Floyd initiated the first National Magnet Conferencein 2003 with 1,200 attendees. In October 2010, ANCC expects to host more than 6,500 nurses at this year's conference in Phoenix, AZ.
Under Dr. Floyd's leadership, ANCC's nursing certification program has been fulfilling its leadership role as the largest credentialing organization in the world. ANCC's certification program currently recognizes close to 150,000 ANCC board-certified nurses, with a total of more than a quarter of a million nurses certified since 1990.
