Peer Review - Growth and Development Workshops

Summary:

The Peer Review workshop provides examples of effective, evidence-based peer review models and examines the outcomes relative to the reviewer’s level and role within the nursing structure. Workshop participants identify the role of peer review in sustaining an environment that supports professional practice.  During the workshop, participants evaluate barriers to peer review, design strategies to overcome barriers, and explore effective communication techniques. This workshop also provides opportunities for the participants to practice strategies for implementing peer review.

Objectives:

  • Identify the characteristics that define a profession.
  • Describe the role of peer review in a professional practice environment.
  • Describe the history of peer review in nursing.
  • Define peer review in nursing.
  • Describe models of peer review that are applicable to nursing.
  • Identify outcomes of peer review for different levels of providers and different roles within nursing.
  • Describe the benefits of effective peer review.
  • Identify barriers to peer review.
  • Identify strategies to assess and overcome barriers to implementation of peer review.
  • Apply the principles of peer review by developing a plan for implementation.
