Dr. Barb Haag-Heitman is President of Barb Haag-Heitman and Associates consulting. Barb has over twenty five years of leadership experience in both acute and long term care settings. She experienced first-hand the excitement, recognition and pride of being a Magnet™ nurse, working in the first health care system to achieve Magnet recognition. Barb draws from her own experience and experiences of dozens of other Magnet-focused facilities in guiding organizations along on their Journey to Nursing Excellence™.

Barb's leadership with organizations on the Magnet Journey spans over a decade with areas of expertise in structural empowerment and transformational leadership. Barb's work helps Magnet-designated organizations and those on the Magnet Journey to develop and implement peer review and shared leadership processes, attaining high quality patient and safety outcomes and achieving the Magnet standards. One example of her recent work in this area includes the development and implementation of a national Magnet Peer Review workshop for the ANCC.

Barb integrates her vast experience in transformational leadership and structural empowerment within each organization's unique culture and strategic plan. Barb has facilitated the development of shared governance/shared leadership both within nursing and uniquely within a multi-disciplinary, multi-site physical rehabilitation practice setting in press. Barb Haag-Heitman is lead developer and presenter for the ANCC Magnet Peer Review workshop and the ANCC Journey to Nursing Excellence™ workshops. She has also written a book entitled, Clinical Practice Development Using Novice to Expert Theory.

Education

Barb received her BSN from Alverno College, Milwaukee. She received a master's degree in Nursing from University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee and second master's degree in Human and Organizational Systems from Fielding Graduate University, California. She went on to receive her doctorate from the same program.
