Dr. Joanna Bokovoy is currently Director of Clinical Innovation for Catholic Healthcare West, a large faith-based health care organization with 36 hospitals, and an internal consultant leading a system-wide innovations project to improve severe sepsis mortality and cost. She brings over 20 years of nursing, research and leadership experience to her consulting practice. In a previous role as a director of health care research for a large community hospital system, she and colleagues developed an innovative Bedside Scientist program to educate and support direct care nurses in doing evidence-based practice and original research. This program helped support the hospital system's achievement of Magnet™ designation and redesignation by creating and supporting a culture of inquiry. It also led to publication of a "friendly" research textbook, Clinical Research in Practice: A Guide For The Bedside Scientist.
Joanna presents extensively about Magnet, research, quality and evidence-based practice at local, national and international conferences, specialty workshops, and at the ANCC Journey to Nursing Excellence™ workshops. She has worked with over 20 organizations to help them create new knowledge, innovations and improvements, and develop sustainable systems to support them.
