Kathleen M. Stolzenberger, PhD, RN

Kathleen Stolzenberger leads strategic efforts in an acute care Magnet™ hospital to strengthen the practice environment and advance professional practice. She has extensive leadership experience in both academic and hospital settings. Her research focuses on the nursing unit as the context for professional practice and on nurse autonomy. Kathleen has served as Magnet project director in her own organization since 1999, leading the hospital to achieve initial designation in 2001 and re-designation in 2005. Currently, she is preparing the organization for its third designation in 2009 using the new Magnet Model.

Kathleen serves on the Magnet Education Planning Team to develop, refine, and customize education workshops. A skilled presenter, she offers customized services to organizations to integrate professional models of care, research, and evidence-based practice, and shared governance. She also presents at the ANCC Journey to Nursing Excellence™ workshops. Kathleen participated on ANCC Magnet program teams charged with revision of the Magnet manual and with developing educational workshops. Kathleen presents extensively on the Magnet Recognition Program® and professional practice at the national, regional, and local level. With expertise in project planning and document preparation, she has mentored numerous organizations to successful Magnet designation. Kathleen is also a published author having written Achieving Magnet status: A Story of Transformational Leadership in The Renaissance of Transformational Leadership and The ANCC Magnet Program as the Framework for Change: Beyond the Award.

Education

Kathleen received a BS in Nursing from St. Joseph College in Emmitsburg, MD, an MS in Nursing from Rutgers the State University in Newark, New Jersey, and a Ph.D in Nursing from the University of Rhode Island.
