Margarita Baggett is presently the Chief Nursing Officer for the University of California San Diego Medical Center. Previously, Margarita held the role of CNO for North Shore University Hospital (NSUH), New York. She led NSUH to Magnet Recognition® in 2001. Margarita and her team transformed their practice environment by supporting and promoting the role of the professional nurse using the Forces of Magnet™ as a framework.
Margarita and her NSUH leadership team were recognized for their extraordinary contributions in global collaboration and research through their work with Erebouni Medical Center, Armenia, which received the Journey to Excellence Award™ for implementing Magnet standards in a developing country. In addition, she has participated in the "Transforming Care at the Bedside" initiative, funded by the Robert Wood Foundation, and supported by the Institute for Health Care Improvement.
Margarita has consulted nationally and internationally, assisting organizations to develop strategic plans to address gaps in Magnet readiness. Her vast knowledge of hospital operations gives her the ability to help organizations demonstrate how their mission, vision, values and strategic plan relate to the Magnet Recognition Program®. She is also a presenter at the ANCC Journey to Nursing Excellence workshops.

Margarita received her MSN from Adelphi University, New York and her BSN from Molloy College, Rockville Centre, New York. She is a graduate of the Wharton Program for Nurse Executives.
